An overnight polysomnogram attended by a technologist in the sleep center used to calibrate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. CPAP keeps your upper airway from closing during sleep by gently providing a constant stream of air through a mask you wear while you sleep. The pressure is gradually increased until a pressure is reached that results in the resolution of the snoring and sleep apnea. CPAP is a common treatment used to manage sleep related breathing disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, hypoventilation and hypoxemia.
An overnight polysomnogram is a procedure attended by a technologist in the sleep center used to diagnose sleep disorders. Polysomnography records your brain waves, oxygen level in your blood via non-invasive finger clip, heart rate and breathing as well as eye and leg movements during the study. The board-certified sleep specialist will interpret the data from the polysomnogram to determine a diagnosis.
A split-night study is an overnight polysomnogram attended by a technologist in the sleep center performed with a two-hour period of baseline sleep study recording, followed by a CPAP titration study if the baseline portion revealed significant sleep apnea per sleep center protocol. If the protocol for split-night criteria was not met, the sleep center will proceed with the overnight polysomnogram.

The MWT is a diagnostic test used to assess a person's ability to remain awake when his or her inability to remain awake constitutes a public or personal safety issue. It may be indicated in patients with excessive daytime sleepiness to assess their response to treatment. The MWT has four 40-minute trials set two hours apart in a quiet, dimly lit bedroom during which time the patient is asked to sit still while looking forward and not do anything stimulating that could intentionally keep them awake.
Home sleep tests are taken from the comfort of your own home. The user will come into the sleep center to pick up the HST equipment and is given a demonstration on how to use the equipment properly before taking it home. Testing is preformed by the user and the data stored on the equipment is uploaded the following day at the sleep center. HST's are only capable of testing for sleep related breathing disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea or central sleep apnea. HST's are not recommended for patients that have medical conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure (CHF), and neuromuscular disease.
