If a diagnosis of obstructed sleep apnea is made, a course of treatment will be prescribed. The goal is to combine available strategies and treatments to assist in maintaining an open airway so normal breathing can be maintained throughout the night. Depending on the individual’s condition and preference, this can be accomplished in a number of different ways such as changes in lifestyle, weight loss, surgery, dental appliance or with the assistance of a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) device.
